The historic Fox Theater first opened in 1928 as the “West Coast Oakland” and was an instant hit. A year later the theater was renamed to the Fox Theater. The theater also offered new and innovative types of live stage shows like “talkies” that were beginning to replace silent films during that time. The theater went through a $75 million renovation in 2009 that reopened the theater with a roaring twenties themed celebration. The renovation added a state of the art Meyer sound system and a larger than ever capacity of up to 2,800.
