Children’s Fairyland in Oakland, California is the perfect place to let your kids’ imagination run wild. This storybook theme park was built in 1948 on the idea of bringing a fun, imaginative, and exciting time to kids in the Oakland area.

The park has around 60 storybook sets created by architect William Russell Everitt. Some of the most popular storybook sets include The Old Lady in the Shoe, Jack and Jill Hill, The Alice in Wonderland Tunnel, Peter Rabbit’s Garden, and the Happy Dragon! The storybook sets bring the childhood stories to life with interactive features like a water tower slide, a tricky maze, and even live rabbits and guinea pigs.

There are plenty of rides built for everyone including very young children. There is a kid-size train, a colorful carousel, and a mini Ferris wheel. Children’s Fairyland has a very inexpensive gift shop that encourages creativity and imaginative play. There are toys, games, outfits, puzzles, music, and books.

Over 15 different animals live at the park to bring the children happiness. The park has miniature horses, goats, ducks, chickens, and more! Plan a trip during the Animal Day or Dr. Doolittle programs in order to get a special opportunity to meet all the animals. These programs are great for field trips also.

Children’s Fairyland also has a vast garden of rare and colorful plants. The garden spreads across the entire. Vegetables are grown in the park’s gardens and fed to the animals.

There is also a tasty restaurant in the park called Johnny Appleseed Cafe. It is located right next to the Jolly Trolly tracks past the Alic in Wonderland maze and serves peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, popcorn, pretzels, hamburgers, and salads. The cafe is very affordable and if opened every day that the park is open.

There are many scheduled events that the park has to offer. The events include puppet shows, arts and crafts, the animal of the day, and much more! All puppet shows at the Fairyland’s Storybook Puppet Theater are original productions that are designed by the talented puppeteers. This puppet show is the oldest continuously operating puppet theater in the United States! The puppet shows include multiple types of puppets including Bunraku, Hand Puppets, Marionettes, and Shadow Puppets.

Fairyland has allowed kids to be part of live theater for more than 50 years through the Fairyland Personalities theater program. This program allows kids between the ages 8 and 10 to participate in live stage productions at community events and in visits to senior centers and schools.

There is also an annual children’s book festival! Kids can enjoy read-aloud by authors and live demonstrations by illustrators, buy books from Oakland’s East Bay Booksellers, celebrate young writers, and meet more than 30 authors and illustrators. The family can also enjoy summer sleepovers! Bring your sleeping bag and camp outside at Children’s Fairyland for a fun night that is sure to bring amazing memories to all kids. There is a continental breakfast at all sleepovers that offer coffee, bagels, hot chocolate, and juice.
